July 2007 Vaction to Cave City, Kentucky Area
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, checked into the hotel and went over to Dinosaur
World, which was not that thrilling.
On Sunday, we spent the day at Kentucky
Down Under. This was a wonderful place! We started our visit there with a short cave tour. Then we got to
see and pet the kangaroos. We even got to feel a baby in it's mother's pouch. We also petted an Emu, which
is similar to an ostrich. After that we went to visit and feed nectar to the birds. We then watched a reptile
show before going to the barn to see all the sheep. We even watched a dog herd in some sheep in the pasture.
Bradley got to feed a lamb and he even got to milk a cow but Stephanie declined the opportunity.
On Monday morning, we went on the Historic Tour of Mammoth
Cave. This was a 2 hour tour. It actually did not go as usual because the lights in some of those sections
weren't working. We ended up going into an alternate section we would later do in a tour later in the week. They still managed
to keep us for 2 hours and it was still worth it.
The history of the caves were very interesting. We learned a lot of history with all 5 of
the cave tours we did. I have learned so much and I have found it so interesting that I want to read and learn even more now.
Tuesday afternoon, we went to the Wax Museum
which was a group of historical exhibits made from wax. The kids also went swimming at the hotel in the early evening.
On Tuesday, we did the New Entrance Tour at Mammoth Cave. This was another 2 hour tour but
it was better than the Historical Tour. That evening we did the best of the 3 Mammoth Cave tours. It was called the Star Chamber Tour.
We toured the cave with laterns for 2 1/2 hours.
On Wednesday, the fun continued. We went to Diamond Caverns. This was truely
the most beautiful of all the cave tours we did.
After that we played a game of miniture golf at the Jesse James Stables.
Then we went on a one hour horseback ride. This was Stephanie's first time riding a horse. She didn't want to do
it but was so glad she did after getting started. Bradley has ridden horses at MDA camp but not for more than a few minutes.
He complained a little about the long ride bothering his legs but would have done it again, if he had the opportunity. I wish
I had gotten pictures of us on the horses!
This morning we checked out of our hotel and came home. We had a lot of fun but it's good
to be back. It's good to sleep in our own beds and it's good to be in the comfort of home.
